Smart materials and structures

This research direction is related to smart materials and structures. Active control of composite structures using piezoelectric sensors and actuators, modeling and calculations of finite elements. Within the framework of this principle, sensors and actuators are used to control mechanical behavior of structures using the piezoelectric effect for artificial effort in the structures. The direct effect (electric field generation as a reaction to mechanical deformations) is used in piezoelectric sensors; The inverted effect (mechanical deformation as a reaction to electric field) is used in piezoelectric actuators. Piezoelectric materials such as PZT and MFC can be used in “smart” structures as sensors and / or actuators for purposes such as control of the form and active vibration damping.
